Where to study your management
qualifications
Where you study your management qualification, may well be influenced by your choice
of study method. If for example, you decide the distance learning is the best way for you to acquire your
management skills, then you will be studying at home, or at work, or wherever else is most convenient.
If you opt for a more structured, traditional form of study, then you are likely to
be in a classroom or workshop type setting.
The number of approved management qualification training centres offering quality
distance learning is considerably less than those offering traditional classroom management courses.
Types of approved centres include:
Local colleges of further education –
Most local colleges can be found in local information directories, and will offer
management qualifications in a classroom setting.
The standard of facilities varies from institution to institution. The majority of
local colleges offer evening classes, but a significant proportion also require some element of day release.
It is rare for a local college to offer flexible learning, or enrolment outside
fixed academic years. Courses may be cancelled through insufficient numbers.
University Business School.
Many universities have associated Business School is offering a management
qualification. In some cases, these qualifications are awarded by a national awarding bodies such as the CMI, and
in others they are the university's own accredited management qualifications.
There is a wide range of University Business Schools, and many will offer both
flexible and traditional workshop based routes. Standards are usually high, as are associated costs and fees.
Private training organisations
The vast majority of approved centres are private training organisations, many of
whom have charitable status.
Standards are generally high, and a wide range of study options are available. These
vary considerably in respect of fees and the level of support provided. Many run several enrolment points
throughout the year, and the better, larger providers of flexible and distance learning management courses offer
continual enrolment and proactive support.
